Please read these terms carefully before using Fazbear Family Services. By submitting an application or renting a unit you agree to be bound by the following.

Sections

```
1. Agreement to Terms
// tos-section-1 · compiled 2026-01-14 · reviewed E.Reyes · approved A.Ferris
By accessing Fazbear Family Services, completing a rental application, or accepting delivery of a unit, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service in their entirety.
These terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("the Client") and Fazbear Family Services ("the Company"). If you do not agree to these terms, do not proceed with an application.
// i wrote this section three times. adrian kept making it vaguer. i kept making it clearer. we compromised on vague.
2. Eligibility
// tos-section-2 · last revised after the Hargrove incident · flagged for review
To rent a unit from Fazbear Family Services you must:
  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Be the legal guardian or parent of the child(ren) named in your application
  • Reside at the delivery address provided during application
  • Have no prior contract violations with Fazbear Family Services
  • Agree to allow monitoring of unit activity during the rental period
Important: Providing false information during the application process is grounds for immediate contract termination and may result in additional action. We verify eligibility before every deployment.
// the monitoring clause used to say "may allow." i changed it to "agree to allow." adrian noticed. he didn't object. that worried me more than if he had.
3. Rental Terms & Obligations
// tos-section-3 · behavioral drift addendum added v6.1 · see internal notes
By accepting a unit into your home you agree to the following obligations for the duration of the rental period:
  • Maintain the unit in the environment described at application
  • Not attempt to modify, reprogram, or physically alter the unit in any way
  • Notify us immediately of any behavioral deviation from expected parameters
  • Comply with recall procedures at the end of the rental period
  • Not expose the unit to environments for which it was not deployed
  • Ensure an adult human is present in the home during all active deployment hours
Rental Extension
Extensions must be requested at least 24 hours before the scheduled return date. Units will not be left in deployment beyond their contracted period without explicit written confirmation from the Company. Failure to facilitate return at the agreed time may result in an emergency recall being initiated.
// "emergency recall" is doing a lot of work in that sentence. i added a note to the internal protocol doc. alice filed it. i don't know if it'll ever matter. i hope it won't.
4. Unit Conduct & Behavioral Parameters
// tos-section-4 · updated post-FFSI pilot review · attachment dependency clause added
All units are programmed to operate within approved behavioral parameters at all times. The Company reserves the right to remotely adjust unit behavior if monitoring indicates deviation from baseline.
Units are designed to support — not replace — the authority of the parent or guardian. If at any point a unit's behavior appears to conflict with parental authority, this should be reported immediately.
Attachment clause: Some degree of child attachment to the unit during the rental period is expected and normal. The Company is not liable for emotional adjustment difficulties following the return of a unit provided the rental period was within contracted limits and the return was conducted according to standard procedure.
// i pushed back on "not liable." hard. for a week. the attachment clause stays because it's legally necessary. i know that. i still don't like it.
5. Data Collection & Privacy
// tos-section-5 · behavioral data retention clause · reviewed and flagged by E.Reyes · see annotation
Fazbear Family Services collects the following data during unit deployment:
  • Unit interaction logs — duration, tone classification, content flags
  • Household behavioral patterns — for unit calibration purposes only
  • Proximity and movement data — monitored for safety compliance
  • Parent-reported feedback submitted during or after the rental period
All personal data is handled in accordance with applicable privacy law. Unit memory is reset at the hardware level between rentals. Behavioral pattern data collected at the system level is retained for internal research and unit improvement purposes.
Note on behavioral data: While individual unit memory is reset between rentals, generalized behavioral data derived from deployment may be retained and used to improve unit performance across the program. This data does not identify individual families.
// "does not identify individual families." technically true. the units learn patterns not faces. i wrote a seven page internal memo about why this distinction matters less than it sounds. alice filed it. adrian read it. he said "noted." i'm still thinking about what that means.
6. Limitation of Liability
// tos-section-6 · unchanged since v3.0 · i stopped trying to change this one
Fazbear Family Services is not liable for:
  • Emotional adjustment difficulties following the return of a unit
  • Changes in household dynamics attributed to unit presence
  • Unit behavior that falls within documented and disclosed behavioral parameters
  • Incidents arising from client failure to comply with these Terms of Service
  • Behavioral outcomes in children that develop after the rental period has ended
// "behavioral outcomes in children that develop after the rental period." i know what that means. i know why it's in there. someday i'm going to make adrian say it out loud.
7. Termination
// tos-section-7 · immediate termination clause added v5.2
The Company reserves the right to terminate any rental agreement immediately and without notice in the following circumstances:
  • Client breach of any term of this agreement
  • Unit safety concern identified during monitoring
  • Client providing false information during application
  • Unit exhibiting Tier 3 behavioral deviation
  • Any situation in which continued deployment is deemed unsafe by Company staff
In the event of termination, a technician will be dispatched to collect the unit as soon as possible. Clients are asked to cooperate fully with the collection process.
8. Amendments
// tos-section-8 · standard boilerplate · unchanged
Fazbear Family Services reserves the right to update these Terms of Service at any time. Clients will be notified of material changes via the email address provided at application. Continued use of our services after notification constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
Things I added. Things I lost. Things I'm still fighting about.
I've been the night archivist here for eight months. I've read this document more times than I can count. I've changed maybe 12% of it. The other 88% is Adrian's — or whoever wrote the original FFSI terms back in 2008 that nobody will let me see in full.
The attachment clause in Section 4 used to say the company "acknowledges emotional impact on child subjects as an expected outcome of the program." I found that in version 2.1. By version 3.0 it was gone. I don't know who removed it. I put a version of it back in. Adrian let me keep it. I think that means something but I'm not sure what.
The behavioral data retention clause is the one I lost sleep over. We say the units are memory-wiped between rentals. That's true at the hardware level. What we don't say — what I couldn't get into the public document — is that the pattern data sticks. The units don't remember your family. They remember what families do. Every deployment makes them better at being indispensable. I know this. Adrian knows I know this. We haven't talked about it directly. We talk around it a lot.
I added the line about an adult being present in the home during deployment hours. It wasn't there before. It took me two weeks to get it in. Small thing. Matters anyway.
If you're reading this — and I mean really reading this, down here at the bottom of a terms of service page at whatever time it is — then you're the kind of person who pays attention. Good. Keep doing that. This place needs more of those.
